How do I know if my insurance covers therapy?
Dr. Portia Smith’s therapy office in Raleigh, NC
To find out what your insurance covers, contact your insurer and ask about mental health coverage. It may also be helpful to mention my credentials, which are EdD, LMFT, and AAMFT Approved Supervisor.
Other questions to ask your insurer are the following:
- What is my deductible?
- What is my co-pay?
- What will be my co-insurance payment?
- How many visits do I get per year?
- Do I need authorization for my therapy visits?
- How do I submit a superbill?
Contact me if you want more guidance on determining what your insurance will cover.
If I don’t carry your insurance, I can provide a monthly “superbill” for you to submit to your insurer for reimbursement.
Good Faith Estimate
Effective January 1, 2022, the No Surprise Act requires all healthcare providers (including mental health therapists) to provide a Good Faith Estimate if you are un-insured or choose not to use your insurance coverage. The Good Faith Estimate is designed to give clients predictability in how much they will be charged for the healthcare services they will be receiving, prior to their appointment. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate or the dispute process, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 985-3059.
How do we start working together?
If you want to try working together, schedule a free phone consultation. During our call, I invite you to share a bit about what’s going on in your life and I will answer any questions you may have.
If we are a good fit, our first appointment will be an intake session to learn more about your needs and desires in therapy and how we can collaboratively meet them.
