In your role as a church leader, it’s likely people often come to you to discuss not only spiritual matters but also personal issues, which may be outside your comfort zone.

For instance, have you found yourself in the following situations?

  • A couple has approached you for relationship counseling. You’re not quite sure what tools to give them and/or they need continuous weekly sessions, which is not feasible with your schedule.
  • A congregant is suicidal/homicidal.
  • A congregant is experiencing domestic violence.
  • A congregant has past trauma (physical, sexual, verbal, or emotional abuse) that impacts their current mental health.
  • It’s hard for you to stay present with your congregants because their issues are dredging up things from your own past.
  • You or someone you work with is demonstrating signs of compassion fatigue or burnout.
  • And more concerns and issues that plague your mind.
Putting the puzzle pieces together with clergy leadership consultation

In any of the above situations, you might find you’d like assistance.
That’s where I can be of service.

Bible in the light for woman of faith, Dr. Portia Smith

I earned my doctoral degree in Counseling Education and Supervision from Argosy University-Sarasota and a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Valdosta State University. My dissertation focused on counseling clergy members and while I am not a member of the clergy, I am a woman of faith.

I understand the importance and power of spirituality and see my role as a therapist to lift people up, to support them as they rise above what they’re going through to feel a Sense of Peace and ultimately transform their lives. I want to do the same for you as you support your congregants.

If you’d like help with any mental health concerns, reach out to me. I can provide training or consultation with whatever issue you’re facing. Give me a call at 919.263.5544.

You don’t have to support your congregants alone.
